PM2.5 Forecast for Beijing – Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Wednesday brings us back to poor air quality in Beijing.  Overnight, we expect increasing PM2.5 levels, but there is a good chance that things will level out or drop a bit during the morning.  But after noon, we expect the buildup to start again, likely taking us into the Very Unhealthy range before midnight.

EXTENDED FORECAST

THURSDAY, January 23:  Thursday will likely be similar to Wednesday with slightly improved air quality in the morning and deteriorating conditions in the afternoon.  The poor air quality should continue with high AQI levels all day, likely at Very Unhealthy or worse in the late afternoon and evening.

FRIDAY, January 24:  There is a good chance of clearing skies on Friday morning with AQI readings at Good or Moderate; but there is also a chance that the weather will only reduce the AQI slightly, leaving us at Unhealthy or higher.  But even if we see that clearing occur, we should see increasing pollution in the evening.

SATURDAY, January 25:  We expect rapidly deteriorating conditions in the early morning hours, then stable or slightly deteriorating conditions in the afternoon.  Overall, it's likely we'll spend the day at Very Unhealthy or higher AQI levels.
